It’s getting close to warm weather down here in the South, and we are dying to give all of our trucks (we always take care of my father-in-law’s F450 while we’re at it) an entire weekend to detail them and shine them up! You know, spend all the time washing them to watch them get covered up in pollen! IF it will quit raining, that is!
Like a lot of you, I am very picky on what we use on our trucks, especially mine. But, I am always looking at new or different products to use. I like smelly good stuff, of course, and who doesn’t like products that add a lot of shine and protectants? Once upon a time, when I had a “cute” little Dodge V6 1500, I am very ashamed to admit, that I washed it with Dawn dish soap, the few times I washed it. I was seventeen years old, what do you expect? Once I washed it with Grease Lightning (GASP!)- it was white and covered in Georgia red clay from our dirt road.
Thank the Lord above I have more sense and pride in my vehicle now. When I married J, he taught me more about products. Not that my parents didn’t, I just didn’t pay attention or care at the time. I remember as a teenager, making fun of my mom for washing her truck. I sat in the sun, on the phone or reading a book and listening to music and watched her wash vehicles. From watching her, I wash vehicles better than my husband (shhh! Don’t tell him! He will deny it!)! No, this isn’t going to be a blog telling you all how to wash your vehicles, I am pretty sure you have that figured out, already! But, I wanted to share some of my favorite products with you all.
J introduced me to Maquiar’s almost 6 years ago. I refuse to wash my trucks in anything BUT Maquiar’s Gold Class. It is orange, it smells amazing, and the shine is off the chain. After I began being obsessed with how my truck is washed, I learned that my parents tried to get me to use it when washing that poor 1500. Oh, well, we live, we learn, right? I tend to be a “product-whore”, and abuse this soap. I order it in a LARGE bottle, from here, and poor it generously directly onto my sponge, mitt or “truck mop”. Being only 5’3” and owning a taller truck, I prefer a “truck mop”, but will use my mitt for the lower parts of the truck. I ordered the mitts, last in packs of four, you know, they get dropped and get dirt on them, so this way I have an extra, or three! Then I just throw them in the washing machine along with any other clothes we might have used. You can find the pack I ordered here, and my favorite mop, here! Oh, forgot to mention, Gold Class (buy it here), makes your wedding ring look brand spankin’ new- so shiny!
We try to wax our trucks, especially mine, as often as we can. But, let’s face it, life is busy, and even busier when you have two kids who you have to watch and tend to while your trying to detail vehicles! What is my favorite wax? You guessed it. Maquiar’s. I prefer their Gold Class wax, even with my over-use tendencies, it goes a long ways. We can usually wax my F350 long bed, at least two coats, and a coat on another truck. I also like Maquair’s ultimate liquid wax, and their Quick Wax. All three have carnauba oils in them; smells good and is really good for your paint. Quick Wax, is also great for touching up your truck at a show and shine, in my small show and shine experience! With two kids, I tend to order a lot off amazon, you can find all three of these waxes on amazon, click the images to go directly to amazon to order- they are usually all prime eligible! Who doesn’t LOVE AmazonPrime???
There are some products I have my eye on and am hoping to get the chance to try soon, and I am no way linked to Maquiar's, I am sure they have no clue what Diesel Doll is! Some of the products I would like to try are Killerwaxx Georgia, Klean Society Products, Chemical Guys, the list grows monthly. What are some of your favorite products, or must have detailing products?
