When I upgraded phones last time, I upgraded to iPhone with the most storage possible! The saleswoman, Kim at Verizon (my girl!), agreed that doing so was my best bet! Kim's co-worker looked puzzled. Kim explained, "Well... she has cute kids!". I added to it by throwing in the fact that I LOVE my truck, and tend to take pics of it often too. Kim laughed, her co-worker looked like a deer in headlights. Oh, well. Diesel trucks are not for everyone, and pictures are not either!
Not many people know, but I started getting involved with the diesel community and industry, not by building a truck, but by taking pictures at events! My dad sled pulls in the SouthEast states (Georgia mainly, but has added Tennessee, the Carolinas, and even Kentucky), through that I picked up my camera and one thing lead to another, and opened some really neat doors for me. Since that time, not only did begin Diesel Doll (because I wanted a place us women could show off their trucks), but I have been published in Diesel World Magazine, Full Pull Magazine, various local newspapers. BUT, this is not the point of this blog, the point is to give a few tips on taking pics of your trucks, diesel or not!
A CLEAN SLATE IS BEST
Well.. kind of. This really depends on what look your going for. I mean obviously, if you want to prove that your truck isn't a "pavement princess", then this tip definitely doesn't apply to you! Personally, my truck photographs well, cleaned up. This tip can also apply to your background- you don't want any trash or any other vehicles in the shot to take away from your subject- your truck! If you do have a background, like a city scape or mountains in the shot, that is okay, we have a tip for that!
Space and Distance
Space and Distance can make your shot. Whether its space between your truck and the background, or space between yourself and your truck. Even if you are in the shot, you don't always have to be right up on your truck to "take pictures with your truck". The major point with this is that you get all of your background in the frame, your entire truck in the frame and you could still get a good shot of you or the truck owner in the frame, as well. We don't always have room to do this set up, so we have to sometimes get creative!
Filters & Editing
My best piece of advice, less is more. Ladies, I know you have heard that saying applied to make up application, and to me, it applies here, too. Keep you images clean with minimal edits and no crazy filters!
Cropping & Angling
When taking your picture, remember to use the "Rule of Thirds", photographers use this a lot to make their images even more visually appealing- this rule isn't for every photo, but it is helpful! Another tip for angling your camera on your truck- get on the ground! Literally. Anytime you take pictures shooting up towards your subject, your subject is going to appear taller, bigger! I can't tell you the times I have laid on the ground to take a picture!
These are just a few of our tips and we hope you find them helpful!

Diesel Doll attempted doing a calendar several years ago, and sadly, we just couldn’t get it off the ground. It was very disappointing to me and I am sure to others as well. Things have changed so much sense then, not only have those behind Diesel Doll changed, Diesel Doll itself has changed as well, and all for the better, I do believe. With that being said, I am excited to announce we are putting together a calendar! This calendar will be for the 2019 year, January-December, of course.
We are hoping to accomplish a mix of women in the calendar- from women who own stock trucks to women who want to be in it, but are going to use their husband’s or boyfriend’s truck, and everything in between. Now, some may think that is a crazy idea, and that it should be for women who own diesels- only; and I am sure there are those who think that a calendar should have huge show trucks and models. The reason we are opening up the search to so many women, is because we believe that Diesel Doll is a group you can be a part of if you LOVE diesels but don’t yet own your dream truck. We are opening up this search available to so many women, knowing full well, how difficult it is going to make our job. Choosing only twelve women to be featured in the calendar is going to be one of toughest things the Diesel Doll team will endeavor this year. This search will be open to brand reps, but not to admins and the Diesel Doll team. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE AT TIME OF ENTRY.
This year, we are opening up the search very soon. Those wanting to apply will complete an application, and submit at least five photos, we will need to see a full body length shot of you, and an up close (think headshot) photo of you, and the rest will need to be of your truck or the truck you will have access to; we will need a full body shot of your truck- bumper to bumper. If you are chosen to be Calendar Doll, you will need to have access to the truck you are submitting at this point. If you do not have access we might have to choose the next entry in line, so please keep that in mind. Photos do not have to be professional shots to enter, but will need to be professional/high quality (no cell phone camera) when it comes time to get us your images for the calendar.
If you are chosen to be a Calendar Doll, you will be responsible for setting up your photo shoot OR already have high quality images ready to submit to Diesel Doll. You must use the truck submitted in your application. You as the Calendar Doll must be in all images submitted for calendar use. Modeling experience is a plus, but not a requirement. Modeling Diesel Doll or affiliate merchandise is also a great idea (discount codes available for Calendar Dolls). Must be willing to promote calendar on your social medias.
Due to conflict of interest and out of respect for other companies and groups we ask that Calendar Dolls not be committed to a 2019 calendar, and if you are chosen to be in our calendar, we ask you to have the same respect for Diesel Doll as we do of other companies. If a situation arises, and you need to drop out, please contact us immediately!
We are excited to make this calendar happen for 2019! We will open the search very soon, and it will stay open around a month. Hopefully it will take us three weeks at the most to choose Dolls. Then we will set a timeline to get your high quality images in. The calendars will be a presale, orders will be placed on the 15th of September through December. We plan to order extras each month.
If you have any questions, please feel free to comment below, or email us! We would be happy to answer any questions you may have!
It’s getting close to warm weather down here in the South, and we are dying to give all of our trucks (we always take care of my father-in-law’s F450 while we’re at it) an entire weekend to detail them and shine them up! You know, spend all the time washing them to watch them get covered up in pollen! IF it will quit raining, that is!
Like a lot of you, I am very picky on what we use on our trucks, especially mine. But, I am always looking at new or different products to use. I like smelly good stuff, of course, and who doesn’t like products that add a lot of shine and protectants? Once upon a time, when I had a “cute” little Dodge V6 1500, I am very ashamed to admit, that I washed it with Dawn dish soap, the few times I washed it. I was seventeen years old, what do you expect? Once I washed it with Grease Lightning (GASP!)- it was white and covered in Georgia red clay from our dirt road.
Thank the Lord above I have more sense and pride in my vehicle now. When I married J, he taught me more about products. Not that my parents didn’t, I just didn’t pay attention or care at the time. I remember as a teenager, making fun of my mom for washing her truck. I sat in the sun, on the phone or reading a book and listening to music and watched her wash vehicles. From watching her, I wash vehicles better than my husband (shhh! Don’t tell him! He will deny it!)! No, this isn’t going to be a blog telling you all how to wash your vehicles, I am pretty sure you have that figured out, already! But, I wanted to share some of my favorite products with you all.
J introduced me to Maquiar’s almost 6 years ago. I refuse to wash my trucks in anything BUT Maquiar’s Gold Class. It is orange, it smells amazing, and the shine is off the chain. After I began being obsessed with how my truck is washed, I learned that my parents tried to get me to use it when washing that poor 1500. Oh, well, we live, we learn, right? I tend to be a “product-whore”, and abuse this soap. I order it in a LARGE bottle, from here, and poor it generously directly onto my sponge, mitt or “truck mop”. Being only 5’3” and owning a taller truck, I prefer a “truck mop”, but will use my mitt for the lower parts of the truck. I ordered the mitts, last in packs of four, you know, they get dropped and get dirt on them, so this way I have an extra, or three! Then I just throw them in the washing machine along with any other clothes we might have used. You can find the pack I ordered here, and my favorite mop, here! Oh, forgot to mention, Gold Class (buy it here), makes your wedding ring look brand spankin’ new- so shiny!
We try to wax our trucks, especially mine, as often as we can. But, let’s face it, life is busy, and even busier when you have two kids who you have to watch and tend to while your trying to detail vehicles! What is my favorite wax? You guessed it. Maquiar’s. I prefer their Gold Class wax, even with my over-use tendencies, it goes a long ways. We can usually wax my F350 long bed, at least two coats, and a coat on another truck. I also like Maquair’s ultimate liquid wax, and their Quick Wax. All three have carnauba oils in them; smells good and is really good for your paint. Quick Wax, is also great for touching up your truck at a show and shine, in my small show and shine experience! With two kids, I tend to order a lot off amazon, you can find all three of these waxes on amazon, click the images to go directly to amazon to order- they are usually all prime eligible! Who doesn’t LOVE AmazonPrime???
There are some products I have my eye on and am hoping to get the chance to try soon, and I am no way linked to Maquiar's, I am sure they have no clue what Diesel Doll is! Some of the products I would like to try are Killerwaxx Georgia, Klean Society Products, Chemical Guys, the list grows monthly. What are some of your favorite products, or must have detailing products?

We recently opened up our search for brand reps for the Spring season! We had a total of twenty five entries, before we opened up the applications we decided on only accepting four to five women. Those twenty five entries were so amazing, it really made things difficult to narrow it down to only five, but we were able to.
We can’t wait to work with this great group of ladies, and see what they can teach us! They all bring different qualities, experiences and goals to the Diesel Doll Brand and we’re so grateful for them!
LEAVE SOME COMMENTS BELOW WELCOMING AND CONGRATULATING THESE GMBEAUTIFUL LADIES! 💖

The last couple of weeks of August, we launched a BRAND REP SEARCH! We got in so many applications, that we were really surprised by the response. Our original goal was to have around four ladies as reps, we got so many applications in, which made it extremely difficult for us to decide, so we doubled our allowance for reps this term, making eight! We have learned so much from these ladies already, and we have grown to love them! Click here to read more about our Social Reps!
We also began our September contest! A great group of ladies entered, from all over the world.. literally.. from Tennessee to Australia! We can't wait to see who wins and who gets to be featured as Truck of the Month, and also gets the Wacko's Kustomz sponsored goodie basket! Go to our facebook page to vote TODAY! And stay tuned for our October giveaway as well!
We have also been working on our store more and more! It will launch around the twentieth of September, we are hoping to have several more designs available, with some men's designs available as well! We are still moving forward with our Diesel Doll Gives Back project, and we are happy to say that as of Thursday, September 7th, we are officially, three quarters of the way to the goal we set to be able to donate to The Pink Fund. We are hoping to meet and "knock the doors off" that goal we set. We are so excited to be able to give back to a great cause, and be able to help patients relax during their treatments and enjoy time with their families.
We are also working on something for December as far as giveaways, we hope to bring you all something great. If your interested in teaming up with us on our December Giveaway- let us know! We would love to talk with you more!
Let us know if you have purchased from our store already, and tell us what you purchased!!!
One of our favorite things to do at Diesel Doll, is GIVE, and be able to see you guys RECEIVE. We have been blessed to have been able to throw contests, this fall, and we will continue to do so. We also have been blessed this fall, by being able to get our September contest sponsored by Wacko’s Kustomz- they generously donated a basket of goodies including one of their shirts, a FASS Fuel mug, a Diesel Doll cup, and some other car care items! September contest isn’t over yet, and it has grown our page tremendously- in the first three days that it was up, we gained almost seventy followers, and began September with a great foot forward as far as sales go! [CHECK OUT OUR SHOP!] We had almost twenty ladies from all over enter their trucks for the contest- literally, ALL OVER, one is from Australia!
Christmas is coming up, and we’d LOVE to be able to do something HUGE for our followers! We are hoping to get sponsors- yes, SPONSORS, lined up for multiple giveaways. If you have been following Diesel Doll any length of time, you have probably learned we love to show support to big and small; big and small diesel shops, people who have been in the industry for years to those who are just getting into the diesel community. We are hoping this is one way we can do that- show support to all sizes of businesses, and be able to give to you all, who support us!
We’re currently still brainstorming on this giveaway, but we are hoping and praying to make this happen! Diesel Doll team and board members, along with reps are working on compiling a list of companies to reach out to, to see if they'd be interested in working with our giveaway this December.
If you are interested in sponsoring this contest in December, we’d love to talk to you and make that happen! EMAIL AMY HERE!

Diesel Doll Founder and President
A couple of weeks ago, a wonderful woman passed away. This woman was a wife, a mother, a friend, and a giver. As someone said about her, “To know her, was to love her”; that really couldn’t be more true. She was fun loving, artistic, and she was one of those types of people you want to be around. She taught others by example how to be a good person, by being caring, supportive and giving. I was one of those people. Yes, I was raised in a home where I was taught all of those things, but she taught me that there are still people who care and give in the world among us, and they weren’t only in my family. Her and her family did, as a whole taught me that. Between them, and my own family, I am reminded daily, to not only possess those characteristics, but to allow them to show. Though she didn’t pass away from breast cancer, this is something she would have loved to stand behind. With that being said, we are excited to announce, the first ever Diesel Doll Gives Back 2017. And were hoping this is only the beginning for us to use Diesel Doll to give back in many ways.
For many years, I have wanted to do a breast cancer shirt, and the proceeds go to a program for breast cancer. I can’t recall the reasons, but this is the year that one of my personal goals and Diesel Doll goals is finally happening. While researching breast cancer charities, I came across The Pink Fund. After reading about them, reading testimonies from these breast cancer patients and their families, I knew this was it. Have you ever NOT gone to the doctor because you didn’t want to rack up a bill? Have you ever dreaded getting prescriptions filled, because you knew that might be money you didn’t have? Worse- have you or a family member ever lost part or all of your income because of cancer or an injury? I know I can say yes to a couple of these.
How can you help? A couple of ways, actually! First would be to purchase one of the products designed specifically for this project, ‘Save the Twins’, you can purchase it here. Second, would be to share this with your friends and family (share on instagram, facebook, email, etc), let them know you have purchased a shirt (or hoodie, or mug, or one of each!) for yourself. Third, we are making it possible to accept donations in one of two ways, while placing your shirt order you can “TIP” Diesel Doll- by doing that, your “TIP” is actually a donation straight to The Pink Fund! We are also setting it up, where you can donate money through our pay pal account.
How much are we hoping to donate? We have a number in mind, but we won’t say yet, just know, our ultimate goal is to be able to make a donation large enough to really make a difference in a family’s life! When our project is done, we will release our total for all to see!
We also wanted to give a HUGE thank you to one of our admins! Nikki (her store: Diesels and Daisies Tribe) took the time to design 'Save the Twins", and she really did amazing. We are so obsessed with it, and have heard such great feedback on it from our followers. We are so happy to have her working with us, and proud to have her as a member of our team!
